A Week Of Announcements

It would seem next week will be a geek's paradise with three different companies holding media events. First, you have Apple on tuesday. The invitations to the event say only “It's Showtime” in Apple's typical mysterious fashion. Speculation predicts everything from the iTunes Movie Store, to an Apple phone, to new iPods, to a media … [Read more…]

Automagically Fixed

So the Tivo somehow managed to fix itself overnight last night. Further research indicates that it sometimes take it that long to implement those kinds of settings changes, which is pretty sizable bag full of suck, IMO. Why does it take as much as 24 hours for a simple settings change to take hold? Mind … [Read more…]

That Tivo Love Affair?

Yeah, that's just about over already. Trying to get the whole TivoToGo functionality working has got me at my wit's end at this point. I can't get the Tivo box to give me the Media Access Key needed to access the Tivo from the PC, though I can get it from the web but it … [Read more…]

We Have WiFi!

I got my wireless router set up and running! I also picked up a wireless bridge to connect the old iBook wirelessly, err… semi-wirelessly. The iBook is still using an ethernet cable to connect to the bridge, but from there it's wireless! I'm now good to go in a couple days when my Tivo arrives! … [Read more…]

Tivo’s On The Way!

Woo hoo! The Tivo is shipped and on the way, and is scheduled to arrive on Thursday! Only two more days of dealing with my crappy Adelphia/Time Warner DVR! This means I need to go out and buy a wireless router now, so that I can have it networked without needing ugly cables strung across … [Read more…]

Cleaning Out The DVR

Now that I've ordered a Tivo, I'll be getting rid of my cable company's shitty DVR in a week or two. As a result, I'm trying to go through all the stuff I've recorded and never gotten around to watching before I give it up. So far I've finally watched Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, … [Read more…]

I Finally Broke Down

I finally placed my order for a Tivo today! I've been procrastinating over it for a while now, but I finally pulled the trigger today. Another week or so and I can bid good-bye to my cable company's piece of crap DVR. Good-bye to it's random crashes, good-bye to it's forgetting to record things, good-bye … [Read more…]

Music Software Geekery

With the Summer NAMM expo opening tomorrow, this should hopefully be a busy weekend for music gear related announcements. One thing for certain, Ableton is having a press conference tomorrow, where they'll be unveiling Live 6. The only new feature they've talked about so far is heavy optimization of the software to help reduce it's … [Read more…]

Stupid iPod Tricks

I just noticed today that if you unplug the headphones from an iPod (the newest models at least) while it's playing, it detects that and automatically pauses itself. How cool is that? Clever, those Apple engineers.

Well, I Tried…

I had sworn to get a new DJ mix recorded at some point over the long holiday weekend, and I gave it a shot this afternoon. But, alas, it seems it was not meant to be. First, the plug kept falling out of the wall socket. This is a common thing in my apartment, where … [Read more…]

What I Did The Last Two Nights

I spent most of last night and tonight cleaning my mom's laptop of viruses, spyware, malware, and all other manner of nasty crap. There was one particularly nasty piece of malware called PestTrap that installs itself via an IE security hole (simply by visiting a web site) and then pretends to be an anti-spyware package. … [Read more…]

I Heart My New iPod

I finally had to break down this weekend and buy a new iPod, picking up a nice, big 60GB model. My old 5GB iPod finally broke down, so it was time. Technically, it still works, but the FireWire port went bad so I can't sync or charge it anymore. Much as I kinda miss my … [Read more…]

More Random Bits

I’m trying to take all these random (and perhaps somewhat trite) postings and combine them every few days, rather than post nonsense day after day. If it was important enough, I’ll remember it for the few days it inevitably takes to build up enough of them for a full post. If not, well… I probably … [Read more…]

Okay, Now I Really Want A MacBook Pro

Between Apple releasing Boot Camp, which enables dual-booting OS X and Windows XP (or Linux) on an Intel Mac, and the new Parallels Workstation, which allows running Windows or Linux (apparently at near-native speeds) from within OS X, (and rumors that this functionality will actually be built into the next version of OS X) I’m … [Read more…]
