Today’s New Musical Re-discovery

Today, courtesy of my new hotness iPod, I’ve re-discovered Suicidal Tendencies. Strictly the old stuff, when they were at their best. Brings back so many memories of being young and dumb, like skating around town with the Join The Army cassette in my Walkman and, when Possessed To Skate would come on, getting the wild … [Read more…]

I Heart My New iPod

I finally had to break down this weekend and buy a new iPod, picking up a nice, big 60GB model. My old 5GB iPod finally broke down, so it was time. Technically, it still works, but the FireWire port went bad so I can't sync or charge it anymore. Much as I kinda miss my … [Read more…]

Something I Learned Today

I’ve simply gotten too old for blasting Slayer all day. I did listen to some Slayer today, but it didn’t take long to switch over to something a little lighter. Like, say, Cibo Matto.

Don’t Forget…

Just a reminder that tomorrow, 6-6-06, is the National Day Of Slayer, so crank ’em if you got ’em. : ) (And yes, I realize this is completely antithetical to my post about “too much noise” from yesterday. Sue me.)

Another Miscellanea Post

Another Miscellanea Post First bit… I’ve gotten a chance to listen to the new Ministy record, Rio Grande Blood a few times now, and I’m quite impressed. That’s two good ones in a row for Al! He seems to be going back and re-making his most successful records in order. 2004’s Houses of the Mole … [Read more…]

More New Music

Though it won’t interest, well… pretty much anybody who reads this blog (that I know of) the new VoiVod record, Katorz, is amazing. Best stuff they’ve done since Killing Technology in my opinion, but I’m more of an old school VoiVod fan. I saw them on both the War And Pain and Rrroooaaarrr tours, back … [Read more…]

Regarding Creativity

I was killing a little bit of time this evening by watching a bit of Metallica’s “Some Kind Of Monster” documentary, and caught a bit where James Hetfield was talking about how he got into music and the role it played in his younger years. This got me reflecting on why I originally got started … [Read more…]

Some Random Bits Of Pop Culture

My favorite new bit of music right now is Hakan Lidbo’s “From Hackney To Caracas“. It’s a blend of tech-house and Latin rhythms, mixed with bits of the soundtrack from a b-grade 60’s spy movie. Completely off the wall, and equally brilliant. Something akin to a structured version of Mr.Bungle’s “California“, but sans vocals or … [Read more…]

Duuuude…

The new Tool is sooooo fucking good… Good enough to forgive them for leaving me waiting five damn years for it. It’ll even help me miss A Perfect Circle just a little less. Nice to see someone is still writing albums and not just collections of songs, the whole thing makes sense as a cohesive … [Read more…]

O Muse, Thou Art Sick…

I fired up the sequencer and worked on some music today (nothing very good, natch) for the first time in ages. As I checked the date of the last file I worked on, I discovered it’s been over a month. And it’s not a case of working on a bunch of stuff and not saving … [Read more…]

Good And Bad Music News

The good? The new Tool record, 10,000 Days will be released May 2nd! Just over two weeks to go! The first single, Vicarious, is already floating around, and it is incredible! I’m completely blown away by it. The bad? Maynard stated in an interview that A Perfect Circle is all but dead. No plans on … [Read more…]

On Creativity

I’ve managed to make the time a couple days this week to sit down and mess around with my MachineDrum this week. I’ve still not entirely re-discovered that creative fuel that I lost, but it’s a start. I’ve challenged myself to write a song using nothing but the MD, try to pull forth some unknown … [Read more…]

Yesterday’s Plan

So, did I follow through on my plan for the evening yesterday? Finish up work? Check. Go to Trader Joe’s to get some food and some wine? Check. Eat some dinner? Check. As can be seen from the photo last night! Drink some wine? Check. First glass with dinner. Bust out the MachineDrum? Check. Make … [Read more…]

It’s Just Not Fair

On a day as beautiful as today is, how can a person possibly be expected to concentrate on work? Between IM’ing all morning, and taking a walk every 10 minutes all afternoon, I’ve gotten sod all done today. Talk about the perfect day to finally un-rack my MachineDrum and sit out on the patio making … [Read more…]
