The Blank Canvas

I used to get a sense of apprehension from the blank canvas, be it a new document in Photoshop, a new and empty posting for this blog, a blank sheet of paper, an empty song in Ableton Live, or whatever else. It brought out all my insecurities. What if I’m out of ideas? What if all my ideas are bad? What a terrifying thing a blank canvas was.

Now, I find it exciting. What possibilities are available! So many things I can fill them with, so many places they can take me. The joy of getting the gears of my mind working. Embracing the process of creation. And if I’m short on ideas, good or bad? So be it. I’ll learn from the mistakes, it’s only a failure if you let it become one. If I take away some new experience or knowledge, I’ve succeeded in at least one regard.

Okay, I’m off to fill up that canvas now…
