For the first time in many years, I sat down and tried to do some creative writing. I used to do it all the time, short stories, poems, song lyrics, you name it, I did it. I’m not saying any of it was any good, but I did it for the same reason I make music (none of which is any good either) and that’s for the fun and satisfaction that comes from the act of it’s creation. For me, art is the process and not the product of it.
Anyway, I sat down earlier today and wrote a small bit of poetry (which I may or may not post later) for the first time in many, many years. Now, this evening, I was applying for a job at a local software company online and one of the last steps in the application process was to write a short 40-60 word poem about your current or last job. I found an interesting synchronicity there, though I don’t suspect the hand of fate at work or anything silly like that.
As an aside, I think it’s great that they ask something unusual like that, and it’s an excellent and fast-growing company, which means I have no chance at getting the job (if history is any indication.) If the universe keeps kicking the same sand in my face as it has been, I’ll almost certainly score an interview, which will go really well, and then the proverbial rug will be pulled at the last minute. Not that I’m bitter or pessimistic or anything.
