I called the Los Angeles office for the company I've been doing contract/consulting work though off and on for the last five years, just to see how the market was out there. Things are apparently hopping out there, they're putting people to work as quickly as they can find them. Pretty much all I'd need to do was show up at their office for an interview and they could have me out working almost immediately.
Now I've got some pretty heavy soul-searching to do over the next few days. I've been talking about getting out of Cleveland for months now, and been seriously considering Los Angeles as an option. It's really down to me deciding I actually do want to go, and it's done. I hate leaving my friends and family, and the place I've lived my entire life, but at the same time there's just no work here. If I want to continue being a designer, I'm going to have to do it somewhere besides Cleveland. I also don't want to spend the rest of my life in Cleveland, I want to get out and see the world and experience a lot of different places, just getting away from here would be an important first step.
So, yeah. Soul-searching indeed.
